Mass and Energy Balance

The Mass and Energy Balance lay-out is a structured documentation that draws together all relevant information regarding gaseous emissions, noise production points and waste generation.

It represents the starting point for preparing an environmental permitting process before local authorities.
Moreover, a calculation of complete mass and energy balance by the Sankey's diagrams technique is attached.

These diagrams, which show all the flows of materials (solid, liquid or gaseous) and energy sources (thermal, electric or chemical), involved in the global production route, starting from the scrap yard up to the finished product, and contemplate each transformation occurring in the main equipment.

As a result, a better understanding of the energy efficiency of the whole process can be assessed, highlighting possible interventions of energy recovery.
Finally, an estimation of the overall plant consumption is deducted from the balance, helping the to estimate correctly a part of the OpEx. One relevant source of emissions is the noise released by the equipment of the Meltshop and the Rolling Mills.

The acoustic impact affects operators during their working activities and all subjects beyond the property fence.

A detailed mapping of noise emissions, according to realistic data related to the noise spectra, is compulsory for environmental permitting and to determine the most suitable interventions of soundproofing.
