Solid Waste Treatment Plants

The slag is a potentially recoverable inert which finds application for many civil infrastructure usage, like the road paving and the modular concrete bricks. Furthermore, after specific treatment and dimensional sifting of slags, the recovered conglomerate can be used also for water treatment applications such as in the phosphorus (P) removal and suspended solids (SS) filtration processes.

the recovery of zinc from the fume dust is also an effective circular economy technology; it turns from a source of hazardous waste to an economical benefit. The efficiency of zinc recovery is higher than 95%, the investment cost is low, especially for small production plants.

The circular economy calls for the recycle and the reuse of wastes for production. Danieli converts the hazardous slags in a certificated industrial aggregate for their reuse in the civil construction sectors with the Ecogravel ® process. Natural aggregates with comparable performances (basalt and porphyry) required for specific applications, are more expensive compared to normal natural aggregates. Ecogravel is an excellent substitute for these natural materials with superior properties.
The first real application of ECOGRAVEL® to recycle the EAF slag is already working in ABS plant since 2007 with achievement of safeguard of environment and the effective economic profit results.

The dust of the EAF, which is classified as a hazardous waste by most environmental control agencies, is considered resource as well to recover the crude zinc by means of Inductec ®.
