Danieli Zero-Scale Pitt excellent efficiency, lower investment costs
This solution minimizes infrastructure and foundations for rolling mills and casters, while effectively handling mill scale.
The final result is a system with great performance and savings up to 1 million euro

In a traditional plant configuration, the direct cooling water used in both the rolling mill and the caster is conveyed to a scale pit.
Scale pits are an undoubtedly efficient system, however costs and execution times are high due to expensive foundation execution. That's where Danieli's Zero-Scale Pit system comes in: this solution perfectly integrated with the plant's technological foundations, minimizing excavations and flume length.
Thanks to the system Danieli developed, it is possible to achieve cost savings of approximately 1 million euro for civil works, which translates to around 1,300 m3 of concrete for a 1-Mtpy bar rolling mill.
The equipment consists of a steel basin for collecting the water, where the course scale will precipitate at the bottom, effectively adopting the same concept as a traditional scale pit.
The scale is continuously removed from the basin by a conveyor equipped with scraping chains, transported to ground level and discharged into a box. The overflow water is then pumped into the water-treatment plant for further cleaning.
The benefits of Danieli's Zero-Scale Pit versus a conventional scale pit system are several and have been summarized in the table within this article. With six systems in operation, the advantages offered in terms of civil construction works minimization and faster installation are apparent, especially in modernization projects, and their success once again demonstrates Danieli's ability to meet customers' needs with an original solution.
