Fresh Water for Steel Dynamics
A new water-treatment plant will complete the billet welder / spooler line project.
The plant to be installed at SDI's Structural and Rail Division in Columbia City (IN) will be comprised basically of a 460-m3/h indirect-cooling circuit and a 1,100-m3/h direct-cooling circuit, both equipped with DANfilter™ sand filters, the patented, Danieli high-rate filtering solution.
The water-treatment plant will be completed with a make-up water-treatment section to ensure good quality water in the cooling circuits.
Moreover, the watertreatment plant's design anticipates a possible future expansion of the rolling mill facilities through the installation of a new reheating furnace and new roughing and intermediate mills.
Another smart solution adopted to reduce the plant footprint, installation engineering, and civil works, is the containerized electrical and control room, to be located under the package cooling towers.
Commissioning of the watertreatment plant is expected during Q3 of 2018.
